4 August 2009 – Cherie Blair asks how could this happen in our streets?

Torn between fascination and contempt that the wife of the ex-prime minister made a documentary about the state of violence in British streets I resolved my confusion by turning my television off!

If anyone should know the causes it is Cherie Blair QC and her husband. Our ex-prime minister more conservative and who oversaw the rapid dismantling of our welfare system and health care. Our starved essential public services are bludgeoned with performance indicators and condescending rhetoric. Our diminished public services, destitute older people, ill-resourced education, health and social services and still no repeal of the punitive cost-cutting 1995 Criminal Injuries Compensation Act.

Indeed, how could this happen and what are the consequences for the people of the UK now – maybe ask your husband?
